During the 1930s-40s, the city was known as the “Tomato Capital,” from which more tomatoes were shipped than any other city in Texas. The city celebrates Tomato Fest in June. During the 2010 Tomato Fest, Jacksonville broke the former Guinness World Record, earning the title “Home of the World’s Largest Bowl of Salsa.”
