Spooky Special

October 24th

Texas State Railroad invites you to join us for our Adult Only Halloween Costume Party on the Rails! 

Our adventure begins at the PALESTINE, TX rail depot on October 24, 2026, where we will promptly board the train at 5pm. We will traverse the tracks to our Rusk, TX Rail Depot whilst enjoying appetizers and a complimentary champagne or cider toast. We will disembark at our Rusk Railroad Depot and under the howling moon and enjoy a catered dinner and dessert as well as dancing to a DJ spinning your favorite spooky tunes (Brush up on your “Thriller” and “Monster Mash” dances)! 

We encourage you to “Costume up”; however, be cognizant of the size and space constraints that are present in train travel!   We will have several categories of costume contests for this unique Halloween excursion! 

Included in the rates for this event are champagne or cider toast, appetizers served onboard, dinner and dessert with iced tea or water served outside on the beautiful grounds of the Rusk depot. Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase on the train and at the depot. This is an adult-only ROUND-TRIP event. This excursion is approximately 5 hours in duration including our time on the Rusk grounds.  

Several pricing and seating options are available.  ADA-compliant coaches are available but must be booked through our reservations desk.

A $3.00 Historical Preservation Fee will be added to the individual ticket rate at checkout.   This fee goes directly towards, our depots and the railroad and is used to protect, enhance buildings, places and objects of historical and cultural significance. 

Caboose

Exclusive private car with up to 8 guests. The caboose features comfortable individual seating, cupola seating for a bird’s-eye view and a private outdoor viewing platform. In addition, this car is temperature-controlled and features a private restroom. Upon departure, a personal car attendant will serve complimentary Champagne or Sparkling Cider toast and appetizer to each guest. Presidential Car 1511

The nostalgic Car 1511 is an ADULT ONLY car that features comfortable seats, intimate table service, large picture windows and a private outdoor viewing platform. In addition, this car is temperature-controlled and features a private restroom. Presidential Car 42 Couches

Art Deco inspired Car 42 features comfortable COUCHES with intimate table service and large picture windows. In addition, this car is temperature controlled and features a private restroom. A personal car attendant will serve complimentary Champagne or Sparkling Cider toast and appetizer to each guest upon departure. A selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase onboard. All seating is assigned and parties with an odd number of guests may share a COUCH with a non-party guest. It is recommended for parties of more than 4 to book a combination of both types of seating to sit across the aisle. Booking both COUCHES and TABLES will require separate reservations online. Presidential Car 42 Table w/Chairs

A selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase onboard. All seating is assigned and parties greater than 2 will be seated front to back at 2 or more tables. Parties with an odd number may share a table with a non-party guest. It is recommended for parties of more than 4 to book a combination of both types of seating to sit across the aisle. Dome

The exclusive glass-top dome car features booth-style seating on the upper level with a very steep, narrow stair passageway on both ends. The unobstructed birds-eye view is something everyone should experience. This car is temperature-controlled and has a restroom on the first level. Car attendant(s) will serve complimentary Champagne or Sparkling Cider toast and appetizer to each guest upon departure. A variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase onboard. All seating is assigned and parties not divisible by 4 (Four) will be assigned a booth front to back or across the aisle and may share a table with non-party guests. First Class

Service Suspension Notice – June 12-14 and June 20-21, 2025

Due to inclement weather and for the safety of our guests and crew, all Texas State Railroad train excursions scheduled for Thursday, June 12, Friday, June 13, Saturday, June 14, Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, 2025 have been cancelled.

What this means for you:

  • All tickets for excursions on these dates are eligible for a full refund or rescheduling, per our standard cancellation and refund policy
