Aboard the Train
The casual grace of train travel never goes out of style. From the moment one steps aboard a vintage 1920s car, the excitement of being on the rails is exhilarating. Various seating and pricing options, thoughtful décor and friendly attendants add to the ambiance of the scenic journey afforded by travelers a century ago. Celebrated steam or vintage diesel locomotives are the muscle that pulls the consist of cars representing a bygone form of notable travel. Most cars are temperature-controlled, have restrooms as well as access to our concession car stocked with a variety of snacks, candy and ice cream and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase. All seats have views along the Piney Woods route with narration and music highlighting the trip.
Seven different accommodations are offered to savor the Texas State Railroad experience: Caboose, Presidential Car 1511, Presidential Car 42 (Couches), Presidential Car 42 (Table and Chairs for Two), Observation Dome, First Class, Open-Air Coach. ADA Compliant Coach is also available for our excursions but must be booked directly with our reservations desk.

Caboose
Exclusive for one party of 8 or fewer. Features comfortable, plush over-sized seats, cupola seating for a birds-eye view and private outdoor-viewing platforms. This is the ultimate secluded car. A personal valet pours a complimentary Champagne or sparkling cider toast and serves freshly prepared appetizers. Non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price. A variety of alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
Presidential Car 1511
Our nostalgic, adult-only Presidential car 1511 features comfortable seats, intimate table service, large picture windows and access to a private outdoor-viewing platform. An attentive porter serves a complimentary Champagne or sparkling cider toast upon boarding and freshly-prepared appetizers. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
Presidential Car 42 Couches
Art Deco inspired, Car 42 features comfortable COUCHES with intimate table service and large picture windows. In addition, this car is temperature controlled and has a restroom. A personal car attendant will serve a complimentary Champagne or Sparkling Cider toast and freshly prepared appetizers to each guest upon departure. A variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well as snacks are available for purchase. This is a family friendly car, and all seating is assigned. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
Presidential Car 42 Tables w/Chairs
Art Deco inspired Car 42 Table w/Chairs for 2 (Two) includes intimate table service and large picture windows. In addition, this car is temperature-controlled and has a restroom. A personal car attendant will serve a complimentary Champagne or Sparkling Cider toast and freshly prepared appetizers to each guest upon departure. This is a family friendly car, and all seating is assigned. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
Sky High Observation Dome
The exclusive glass-top dome car seats up to 70 people and features booth-style seating with convenient tables. The unobstructed birds-eye view is something everyone should experience. A personal valet pours a complimentary Champagne or sparkling cider toast and serves freshly-prepared appetizers. A variety of alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
First Class
Comfortable upholstered benches or chairs at tabletops for four, with table service by friendly and knowledgeable attendants. Light snacks and one bottled water included. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase from one’s seat. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
First Class – Lower Dome section (seasonal use)
Intimate booth-style seating in an area accommodating up to 20 people. Light snacks and one bottled water included. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
Open-air Coach
This unusual form of travel includes vintage wooden bench seats in cars with no windows so the East Texas air flows directly through the car. This accommodation is limited to certain seasons. Small cushions are permitted. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
Locomotive Ride-Along
Savor the day inside the cab of a steam or diesel locomotive where you’ll be seated between the engineer and conductor in one of the Railroad’s classic “Old Girls.” You’ll start the day dressed in complimentary TSR safety gear, ready to assist the engineer and conductor in preparing for departure. This car is NOT ADA-compliant.
All cab riders must be 18 years old and go through a security background check.
Advance reservations and a background check are required and some clothing restrictions apply.
Concession Car
Accessible from all classes, the concession car has multiple snack and drink options available to make a ride aboard a vintage train even more enjoyable.
