The casual grace of train travel never goes out of style. From the moment one steps aboard a vintage 1920’s car, the excitement of being on the rails is exhilarating. This four-hour train adventure, with an hour layover either at the Rusk or Palestine depot grounds, takes passengers on a journey through the impressive Piney Woods and 125 years of history. Celebrated steam or vintage diesel locomotives are the muscle that pulls the consist of cars representing a bygone form of notable travel.
Relaxed seating, thoughtful décor and friendly, responsive attendants add to the ambiance of the scenic journey afforded by travelers a century ago. Music, mixed with educational narrative about the 50-mile roundtrip, includes a great selection of classic railroad tunes which appeal to a wide and wild range of musical tastes.

Choose Your Seat
Four types of accommodations are offered during the Texas State Railroad experience: caboose, presidential class, first class, coach OR a locomotive ride-along.
The exclusive caboose is designed for one party of 6 or less. Featuring comfortable oversized seats, large picture windows, cupola seating for a birds-eye view and private outdoor viewing platform. A personal valet pours complimentary Champagne and serves freshly-prepared appetizers. A choice of premium alcoholic beverages is available for purchase.
The nostalgic #1511 Presidential Car is an adult only experience featuring comfortable oversized seats, intimate tables for easy conversation, large picture windows and a private outdoor viewing platform. An attentive porter serves complimentary Champagne and freshly-prepared appetizers. A choice of premium alcoholic beverages is available for purchase.
First-class passage, accommodating fewer passengers than coach class, includes comfortable upholstered chairs and has a personal car attendant. First class includes a Champagne toast, beverage service and complimentary appetizers in climate-controlled cars that are ADA accessible.
Coach features traditional Pullman-style seats, the historic seating arrangement that has characterized train travel from its inception, and you have the option of cars featuring windows that open and close or cars with the windows removed.
Open-air coaches feature wooden bench seats in cars with open windows. Standard coaches feature padded bench seats in cars with full windows.
A concession car also is accessible for purchase of refreshments along the route.
Savor the day with a steam, or diesel locomotive, ride-along where you’ll be seated between the engineer and conductor inside the cab of one of the Railroad’s classic Old Girls. You’ll start the day dressed in complimentary TSR safety gear, ready to assist the engineer and conductor in preparing for departure.
